The Washington State Department of Agriculture announced that officials were able to trap the state's first Asian giant hornet, also known as the "murder hornet," following five previous confirmed sightings. The department said the next steps are to search for nests using infrared cameras and place additional traps to catch live specimens, which will be tagged and tracked back to their colony. Officials aim to find and destroy the nest by mid-September before the colony would begin creating new reproducing queens and drones.
